NAGPUR: There is something magical about the old songs that often take people back to the golden era. Hit songs based on legendary actors Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand and Guru Dutt enlivened Sai Sabhagruha with rains also bringing a whiff of fresh aroma, on Friday evening.
Organized by Pratikruti Music Academy, the show began with ‘Ye lo main haari piya’ which was beautifully filmed on Guru Dutt and Shyama in ‘Aarpaar’.
At a tender age of ten, singer Kritika Shukla matched the effectiveness of the song. Murar and Pradnya Dorle gave full justice to ‘Aaja sanam madhur chandni main hum’ from film ‘Chori Chori’, originally sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Manna Dey.
In all, 26 songs were presented. Some of them like ‘Main zindagi ka saath nibhaata chala gaya’, ‘Saiyan dil mein aana re’ and ‘Tasveer tere dil me’, performed by Abhijeet, Pragati Naik, Vinay and Sushma, took the programme to a higher level.
Music lovers enjoyed the evening to the fullest and relived the immortal songs presented by the artistes one after another. Among them was Aarti Sharma who had come with her children for the show. She said, “My love for old songs brought me here. Though I love Dev Anand, the charm of Raj Kapoor is immense. I enjoyed the evening as the show met my expectations.”
Pankaj Verma said, “It was pleasure to listen to songs featuring Dev Anand. My favourite is ‘Daam maro daam’ which suited Dev Anand’s personality. His performance in films like Guide, Hum Dono and many others continue to remain my favourites. He showed every shade of romance on the silver screen and I love to see his films again and again,” he added.
However, Pankaj’s wife Mamta came to the show due to her love for Raj Kapoor. She said, “For me, Raj Kapoor will always be the original and the greatest showman of Indian cinema. In his 50 years of illustrious film career, Raj had a wonderful role to play, in front and behind the camera. Energetic environment at the auditorium made the songs even better,” she added.
